Happy Friday to everybody! Alabama weekend is here on Rocky Top! And Vols fans are ready to go for the biggest game of the year.
At this point, Tennessee-Alabama is a one-game season for the Vols considering the back end of their schedule and the fact that they have a bye after this game. So Butch Jones and the coaching staff are likely to pull out everything they’ve got.
Meanwhile, there is some individual football news to get to this morning. Some of it is good, but some of it is unfortunate.
Also, we have some other sports on campus to cover.
But, as always, let’s start with football.
Josh Dobbs a finalist for Golden Arm Award – Ryan Callahan of 247Sports
"Tennessee’s Joshua Dobbs is one of 15 college quarterbacks still in the running for the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award after the annual award trimmed its initial watch list of 43 candidates on Thursday.…The Golden Arm Award has been presented at the end of each season since 1987 to the nation’s top college quarterback, based on his accomplishments both on and off the field. Candidates must be a college senior or fourth-year junior on schedule to graduate with their class."
Preston Williams granted release from Vols – Rhiannon Potkey of the Knoxville News Sentinel
"Tennessee sophomore wide receiver Preston Williams was granted his release from the program on Thursday, according to the Tennessee athletics department.…Williams had nine catches for 80 yards in six games this season with two starts. After catching eight passes through the first three games, Williams has only caught one pass for 19 yards in the last three games."
Volleyball weekend schedule – UTSports
"The Tennessee volleyball is back home this weekend at Thompson-Boling Arena, hosting Ole Miss on Friday and Arkansas on Sunday.The Vols (11-7, 1-4 SEC) are playing a home match for the first time in 18 days when they play Ole Miss (12-6, 1-4) at 7 p.m. Sunday’s match against Arkansas (3-14, 1-4) starts at 1:30 p.m. Both matches will be streamed via SEC Network+ and WatchESPN."
Golf weekend schedule – UTSports
"The Volunteers are scheduled to compete in the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate at Blackthorn Club (par 72, 7,147 yards) in Jonesborough, Tenn., from Friday, October 14 through Sunday, October 16.The field consists of 15 teams and includes three programs that are ranked in the top-25 by Golfweek."
