Tennessee football injuries, Bob Shoop, and the South Carolina game time headline the Volunteers news on Rocky Top for Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2016.

Life is a bitter pill to swallow on Rocky Top right now. A slew of injuries along with such an embarrassing loss to the Alabama Crimson Tide over the weekend woke up fans to just how much more work the Vols football program has to do.

And the injuries keep on piling up, which is part of our news today.

On top of the injuries piling up, though, the season must go on. As Tennessee football enters its bye week, we have other football news that includes looking ahead to the next game and some quotes from Bob Shoop.

There’s also a bit of basketball news to get to, as the start of the season is only weeks away. But let’s begin with football injuries.

Kahlil McKenzie likely out for the season – John Brice of 247Sports

"Sophomore defensive tackle Kahlil McKenzie “is not expected back this year” after enduring a torn pectoral muscle in the first half of Saturday’s blowout-loss to Alabama. It’s another devastating blow for the Vols, who are without senior linebacker Jalen Reeves-Maybin for the remainder of the season after 247Sports first reported last Saturday that Reeves-Maybin had undergone season-ending shoulder surgery."

Vols’ OL Jack Jones to undergo surgery – John Brice of 247Sports

"A fixture in the starting lineup since No. 18 Tennessee posted a narrow win last month against Ohio, Jack Jones now is trying to stay healthy enough to remain in the Volunteers’ starting front. The sophomore guard from Murfreesboro’s Oakland High School tore ligaments in his thumb in the first half last Saturday of the Vols’ 49-10 shellacking at the hands of the Alabama Crimson Tide."

Tennessee vs South Carolina game time set – Mark Bergin of WBIR

"Tennessee (5-2, 2-2 SEC) plays against South Carolina (2-4, 1-4 SEC) at Williams-Brice Stadium in Columbia, S.C. on Oct. 29 at 7:15 p.m. ET.SEC officials are still working to determine which channel will televise the game between the Vols and Gamecocks.Tennessee and South Carolina will play on either ESPN, ESPN2 or the SEC Network."

Bob Shoop expresses optimism at Knoxville Quarterback Club – Mike Griffith of SEC Country

"Shoop appeared at the Knoxville Quarterback Club as scheduled, taking accountability after Saturday’s 49-10 defeat to Alabama.“Disappointed with our performance but not discouraged,” was how Shoop described the mood in the Tennessee football building after the loss to the Crimson Tide.“To be 5-2 and have all of our dreams goals and aspirations ahead of us is exciting,” Shoop said."

Lamonte Turner ready for live competition – Grant Ramey of Knoxville News Sentinel

"It’s easy to understand why Lamonte Turner can’t wait to play Slippery Rock in the Tennessee men’s basketball team’s Nov. 3 exhibition opener at Thompson-Boling Arena. The last time the redshirt freshman Tennessee guard played in a competitive game, he was a junior in high school."
