Tennessee football injuries, Bob Shoop, and the South Carolina game time headline the Volunteers news on Rocky Top for Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2016.

Life is a bitter pill to swallow on Rocky Top right now. A slew of injuries along with such an embarrassing loss to the Alabama Crimson Tide over the weekend woke up fans to just how much more work the Vols football program has to do.

And the injuries keep on piling up, which is part of our news today.

On top of the injuries piling up, though, the season must go on. As Tennessee football enters its bye week, we have other football news that includes looking ahead to the next game and some quotes from Bob Shoop.

There’s also a bit of basketball news to get to, as the start of the season is only weeks away. But let’s begin with football injuries.

Kahlil McKenzie likely out for the season – John Brice of 247Sports

"Sophomore defensive tackle Kahlil McKenzie “is not expected back this year” after enduring a torn pectoral muscle in the first half of Saturday’s blowout-loss to Alabama.It’s another devastating blow for the Vols, who are without senior linebacker Jalen Reeves-Maybin for the remainder of the season after 247Sports first reported last Saturday that Reeves-Maybin had undergone season-ending shoulder surgery."

Vols’ OL Jack Jones to undergo surgery – John Brice of 247Sports

"A fixture in the starting lineup since No. 18 Tennessee posted a narrow win last month against Ohio, Jack Jones now is trying to stay healthy enough to remain in the Volunteers’ starting front.The sophomore guard from Murfreesboro’s Oakland High School tore ligaments in his thumb in the first half last Saturday of the Vols’ 49-10 shellacking at the hands of the Alabama Crimson Tide."

Tennessee vs South Carolina game time set – Mark Bergin of WBIR
