Tennessee Football Recruiting: Vols Pick Up Commitment from Three-Star Tight End
Tennessee football picked up a commitment from Florida three-star tight end James Brown the day after losing to the South Carolina Gamecocks.
Things aren’t going well on the field for Tennessee football right now, but Butch Jones manages to stay hot on the recruiting trail.
The Vols picked up another commitment Sunday from three-star tight end James Brown.
It was Brown’s first major scholarship offer, according to 247Sports online.
His other offers were from Florida A&M, UMASS, Florida International, Marshall, Holy Cross, and Gardner-Webb.
Those may not be impressive offers, but Jones has already shown a knack for evaluating talent that other people overlook.
At 6’4″ 210 pounds, he certainly needs to put on more weight, but he does have potential. And he also has the right height. Here is his highlight reel.
Out of Orlando, Fla., Brown is the Vols’ 26th commitment for the 2017 recruiting class. as he showed there, he does have very good vision and is pretty versatile.
Larry Scott and Robert Gillespie both went after him hard, so it clearly looks like something is there with him
So while Jones continues to raise questions about his coaching ability on the field, he is still doing everything right off the field…and on the recruiting trail for Tennessee football.
The Vols currently have the No. 8 ranked recruiting class on Rivals. Meanwhile, many of his commitments are likely to receive a markup before the year is over.
So that ranking could improve dramatically over the next few months.
If he could only start translating that recruiting onto the football field, fans would be completely satisfied with him.
As it is, they are starting to get impatient with the results.
