Tennessee Football Recruiting: Vols Offer Four-Star Cal Commitment at Quarterback in Adrian Martinez for 2018
Tennessee football offered a scholarship to four-star 2018 quarterback Adrian Martinez out of Fresno, Calif. Martinez is committed to the Cal Golden Bears.
After leading the nation in decommitments this past year, Tennessee football is looking to flip the script on that for its next recruiting class in at least one instance.
And that instance is at the most important position on the field.
The Vols offered a scholarship to four-star dual-threat quarterback Adrian Martinez, who has verbally committed to California.
Martinez made the announcement on Twitter Tuesday afternoon, and quite honestly, he had a few curious things to say about the offer considering he’s already committed elsewhere.
According to GoVols247, this is what he said.
“Dream come true to have received a scholarship offer from The University of Tennessee!! #DOM1N8 #RockyTop,” he tweeted.
Why would he say it’s a dream come true if he’s committed elsewhere?
Anyway, Butch Jones and his staff are clearly big on making sure they secure a quarterback for every class, and this class is no different. So going to California for a guy like Martinez is no shock.
And he also does love dual-threat quarterbacks, so this could be a great pickup for Tennessee football if he could work some magic.
Here are some of Martinez’s highlights.
Picking him up would be a huge steal and could shift the trend after what happened to the Vols last year.
At 6’3″ 185 pounds, Rivals has Martinez as the No. 9 ranked dual-threat quarterback nationally and as the No. 28 ranked player in the state of California.
So he’s clearly a talented guy. And his size combined with being a dual-threat would make him a great player in Jones’s system.
