Tennessee football offered a scholarship to four-star defensive end Jarell Cherry out of Dalles, Texas. New of the Volunteers offer broke late Monday night.
Butch Jones is still not satisfied with the Tennessee football defensive line, and in addition to all the talent within the state at that position he wants to secure, he is now going national.
He and the Vols staff offered a scholarship to four-star defensive end Jarell Cherry out of Dallas, Texas.
Cherry announced the offer on Twitter late Monday night.
The Lord is really presenting me with the best opportunities. I have just received an offer from The University of Tennessee. #GoVols pic.twitter.com/lwXjaCWDy6

The No. 5 ranked player overall at his position on Rivals, Cherry is a weakside defensive end with his 6’3″ 226-pound frame. The Carter High School prospect is the No. 12 ranked player in the state of Texas. He is a Top 150 player overall.
Cherry is fielding offers from numerous college football powerhouse programs, so the Vols will have some stiff competition for this guy.
According to the 247Sports Crystal Ball, Tennessee football has a lot of work to do just to get into his Top 5.
After all, right now he appears to be giving the most serious looks to the Texas Longhorns, Alabama Crimson Tide, LSU Tigers, Oklahoma Sooners, and Texas A&M Aggies.
By those schools, it seems he either wants to stay in the Southwest, close to the Southwest, or go to an ultra-prestigious school.
Tennessee football is indeed prestigious, but Alabama clearly has a heck of a lot more to sell on that front based on its success over the past decade.
But now with the offer in hand, maybe Jones and his staff can work some magic. We’ll find out soon enough.
An edge rusher like Cherry would definitely be a special way to beef up the defensive line.
