Happy Hump Day! The Tennessee Vols are halfway through spring practice in Knoxville, and the weather is really starting to show it.

Going into this weekend with such weather gives you the great feel of spring. It’s certainly in the air.

As we get set to bring you the news on Rocky Top for today, a recap of the seventh spring practice leads the way.

There’s also more news John Currie, who spoke on basketball coach Rick Barnes. And there were baseball and softball games last night.

We’ll get to all of that, starting, as always, with football.

Tennessee football got back to focusing on the little things Tuesday for their seventh spring practice. Midway through the spring for them, it was the perfect thing to focus on. They dubbed it “Technique Tuesday.”

"The Tennessee Vols focused on “all technique, all day” in front of a larger-than-usual collection of visitors, including various coaches and a group of students from Alcoa Middle School. The UT quarterbacks and wide receivers ran through a contact drill that focused on ball security while taking a hit. At the end of each run, student manager Chris Cole took a few hard blows while holding a pad."

Tennessee basketball athletic director John Currie visited with Rick Barnes Tuesday, just his fourth day on the job, as he’s been hitting the ground running. In the process, he sang high praises for the men’s basketball coach. Here’s a quote of what he said.

"“You already know that there’s no better coach to coach this program and lead this university in men’s basketball than Rick Barnes,” Currie said. “I felt like it was an incredibly providential moment for the University of Tennessee to have that kind of opportunity to get a coach of Coach Barnes’ character and values and competitiveness and coaching ability here.“He’s the perfect fit for the University of Tennessee.”"

In a bad midweek loss, the Tennessee baseball skid continues. The Vols suffered a bad loss when they needed to get back on track after losing their third straight SEC series this past weekend.

"Tennessee staged a late rally on Tuesday night against Middle Tennessee, but a six-run second inning gave the Blue Raiders an early lead they would not relinquish in a 7-4 final at Lindsey Nelson Stadium. With the loss, the Volunteers (15-11, 1-8 SEC) move to 35-24 all-time against MTSU (14-15, 3-6 C-USA), including a 15-12 mark in games played in Knoxville. This season, Tennessee is 14-3 in non-conference play."

The Vols improved to 32-5 on the year with a dominating performance over the Colonels. It was a great midweek performance and also a great way to end their 10-game home stand.

"Brooke Vines extended her hit streak to 11 games with an early home run that pushed No. 17/17 Tennessee to a 10-1 victory over Eastern Kentucky in five innings on Tuesday evening at Sherri Parker Lee Stadium.Eight Volunteer batters had hits in the victory with four of those players recording RBIs as UT earned its 11th straight win."
