A Tennessee Vols football scrimmage and baseball and softball SEC series wins lead the Volunteers news for Monday, April 10, 2017.

The bad news is it’s Monday. The good news is that it’s set to be sunny and warm all week throughout most of the country, and combining that with an intriguing sports weekend makes for a bit of happiness among Tennessee Vols fans.

As we get set to bring you the news on Rocky Top for Monday, April 10, the big story is that the Vols had another football scrimmage on Saturday.

We’ll touch on two major stories related to that.

Also, though, the baseball Vols finally accomplished something this year. And the softball Vols keep rolling.

Then there’s a swimming and diving accomplishment.

But we start with football.

Tennessee football holds second scrimmage – Mike Griffith, SEC Country

The Tennessee Vols held another scrimmage over the weekend, and according to reports, it looks like defense was the name of the game then.

"Those who were allowed to watch had to appreciate some of the defensive playmakers who continued to emerge.The defense, likely still fired up from the “Circle of Life” drill Jones sprung on them Thursday, played with the sort of pride defensive line coach Brady Hoke recently spoke about."

Bob Shoop discusses injuries from scrimmage – Grant Ramey, GoVols247

Tennessee Vols defensive coordinator Bob Shoop appeared on ‘The Nation’ with Chris Low and John Brice. He addressed a scare about a possible injury to Jonathan Kongbo, whom the Vols need to be a star this year.

"Shoop answered the question with no concern in his voice.“I think we’re going to be alright,” he said. “Injuries are part of it. We’ve had some guys go in and out. (On Saturday) in the scrimmage with our first unit defense we had a couple walk-ons playing at the safety position, we had an early-enrollee freshman playing defensive end when we had some injuries.”"

Tennessee baseball takes series over Florida – Mike Strange, Knoxville News Sentinel

The Tennessee Vols lost to the Florida Gators on Sunday, but by that point they had already taken two in the series. It was their first SEC series win of the year.

"The Vols (17-12, 3-9 SEC) had won Friday and Saturday in extra innings and almost overcame a 5-0 deficit Sunday."

Tennessee softball sweeps Kentucky – Mike Strange, Knoxville News Sentinel

While Tennessee baseball is hoping to continue finding itself, the softball Tennessee Vols are on a roll. The Vols swept the Kentucky Wildcats over the weekend and are dominating like never before.

"The Vols (35-5, 9-3 SEC) never trailed during the weekend to notch their third consecutive series sweep."

Liam Stone earns silver at FINA Canada Cup – UTSports

"Tennessee junior Liam Stone captured silver in the men’s 3-meter competition Sunday at the FINA Canada Cup.Stone, who was named SEC Diver of the Year last week, earned his first senior international diving medal. He put together a six-dive score of 457.40 to finish second in the six diver field."
