Butch Jones on the state of the Tennessee Vols with new quarterbacks and a commit hoping for a title lead the Volunteers news for Tuesday, May 16, 2017.

The Tennessee Vols softball team is set to begin its postseason, and the same for baseball is right around the corner.

But, in the middle of May, it’s football dominating the day.

As we get set to bring you the news on Rocky Top, a recent commitment’s comments about a future championship and Butch Jones’s comments on where the Vols program is lead the way.

Butch Jones says Vols not ‘restarting’ with new quarterback – Patrick Brown, GoVols247

The Tennessee Vols may be breaking in a new quarterback this Fall, but Butch Jones said he doesn’t look at it as restarting. Jones had high praise for Jarrett Guarantano and Quinten Dormady and implied the program was in good hands with either quarterback. Here’s a quote from him.

"“We’re excited about those individuals. They’re very, very talented. I think the other thing that really helped their growth and their development is really being able to sit back and watch a Josh Dobbs and how he carries himself on a daily basis, and not just on the field, but off the field and in the community and really the expectations that surround being the starting quarterback at the University of Tennessee.”"

Four-star dual-threat quarterback Adrian Martinez committed to Tennessee football over the weekend, and he’s already talking big about the future. He said that while he’s honored by the comparisons to Joshua Dobbs, he wants to be better. Here’s part of what he said.

"“I want to win an SEC championship; I want to win a national championship; I want to do all the things that (Dobbs) may not have been able to accomplish at Tennessee. That’s my goal right now.”"

Woman thanks Canales for giving up seat on plane – Rhiannon Potkey, Knoxville News Sentinel

Tennessee Vols quarterback coach Mike Canales gave up his seat on a plane from Las Vegas over the weekend, and he drew particular thanks from a mother named Meredith Hammond who needed to make that flight in order to catch her son’s baseball game.

"Hammond got on Twitter and sent a note of gratitude to Canales. Once Canales re-tweeted it, stories began appearing about his act of goodwill on the day before Mother’s Day."

Tennessee baseball to host Morehead State – UTSports

The Tennessee Vols are set to play their final midweek game of the year on Tuesday by playing host to the Morehead State Eagles at 6 p.m.

"The Volunteers enter the Tuesday matchup with a 26-22 overall record (7-18 SEC) after dropping three games to No. 8-ranked Kentucky in Lexington last week. Prior to the weekend series against the Cats, Tennessee recorded back-to-back wins in midweek action versus Belmont and Eastern Kentucky."
