Tennessee football picked up another 2018 commitment from an in-state prospect on Friday, as four-star safety Brendon Harris committed to the Volunteers.

Butch Jones had hit a rocky period in recruiting, as Tennessee football recently lost a four-star commitment who reopened his recruiting. But he redeemed himself by picking up another elite in-state prospect for 2018 on Friday.

Brendon Harris, a safety out of Baylor School in Chattanooga, announced his commitment to the Vols in a Twitter post shortly after noon.

A four-star on Rivals, Harris is the No. 6 ranked player at his position, No. 64 ranked player overall, and No. 3 ranked player in the state.

That makes for three of the top four players in Tennessee committed to the Vols now along with four of the Top 10 with four more still out there. And it’s certainly a better pace than what Jones had last year.

At 6’2″ 195 pounds, Harris loves to play physical and close in on guys to lay a hard hit. He’s also very versatile, as he has played running back in high school as well.

How skilled he will be at playing this physical in college remains to be seen. However, it speaks volumes that he is willing to get that physical. The mental toughness there is half the battle for a safety.

Meanwhile, he has the speed to play, which is why he can position himself so deep at safety to close in on guys.

That speed will definitely carry over into college.

Here is a look at some of his highlights.

Harris’s commitment moves Tennessee football up to No. 7 in the Rivals team recruiting rankings for 2018.

He is Tennessee’s 10th commitment, and the fourth four or five-star pickup. The Vols are currently second in the SEC in recruiting behind only the LSU Tigers.
