Tennessee Vols softball reaching the NCAA super regionals, Joshua Dobbs speaking and recruiting lead the Volunteers news for Monday, May 22, 2017.

We’re still on the tail-end of this athletic year, and one Tennessee Vols team is generating all the excitement at this point.

In fact, they’ve generated enough excitement to take news away from football.

As we get set to bring you today’s news on Rocky Top, softball is the dominant story for right now. And that could continue happening during the future.

Of course, there’s still recruiting news to get to. And Josh Dobbs made headlines once again.

But we start with the exciting softball news.

Tennessee softball reaches NCAA super regionals – UTSports

With only one senior in the starting lineup and a freshman and sophomore leading the pitching staff, this was supposed to be a rebuilding year for the Tennessee Vols softball program. But instead, they’re heading to the super regionals for the fifth time in six years.

"The Volunteers (47-10) went undefeated in an NCAA Regional for the eighth time in program history with today’s win over the Lancers. In six of the seven previous occasions, UT went on to advance to the Women’s College World Series."

He may now be an NFL quarterback and a college football legend, but former Tennessee Vols quarterback Josh Dobbs decided to go back to his old stomping grounds for a quick stop on Sunday.

"Hours after the NFLPA Rookie Premiere in Los Angeles, Dobbs stopped in Alpharetta to again speak at his high school’s annual baccalaureate ceremony, this time urging 2017 AHS graduates to leave a legacy.“He was supposed to fly straight to Pittsburgh from Los Angeles,” Dobbs’ mother Stephanie said. “But he wanted to stop here quickly today and speak.”"

Tennessee football is back in the Top 10 of most recruiting sites as Butch Jones continues to secure elite in-state talent. But now there are 23 new targets he’s extended scholarship offers to. And they’re worth taking a look at.

"With the end of the spring evaluation period quickly approaching, Tennessee coach Butch Jones’ staff has continued traveling to schools across the country over the past few weeks to check on top targets and evaluate dozens of other players."
