Tennessee softball is set to begin the 2017 NCAA Super Regionals. The Volunteers will face the Texas A&M Aggies in a best-of-three series.

In a year with a young team and when they were supposed to rebuild, Ralph and Karen Weekly still have the Tennessee softball program back in the NCAA Super Regionals.

And they are hosting the series at that.

The Vols begin their Super Regional series against the Texas A&M Aggies today in a best-of-three series to get back to the Women’s College World Series.

Tennessee comes in as the No. 8 seed at 47-10 after winning all three games last week in the opening rounds of the NCAA Tournament.

Texas A&M enters as the No. 9 seed at 45-10.

The Vols are obviously led by breakout star Meghan Gregg, who was named SEC Player of the Year. But stars in the lineup of both teams are what will make this series incredibly interesting.

This is the fifth Super Regionals appearance in six seasons for Tennessee softball, and its the first since 2013 for Texas A&M.

Tennessee’s first game against Texas A&M will be at 6 p.m. Friday on ESPN2.

The next game is scheduled for 5 p.m. Saturday on ESPN2.

And if necessary, the third game is scheduled for 3 p.m. Sunday on ESPN.

The two teams met in one three-game series to close out the regular season this year, and although the series was in College Station, the Vols won two of three after dropping the first game.

This time, though, they’re in Knoxville, which obviously gives Tennessee a bigger advantage.

It’s the sixth time in school history Tennessee is hosting a Super Regionals series, and they’ve never failed to make the College World Series when that has been the case.

So that spells good news for the program, and getting back to the College World Series with such a young team would really emphasize the great shape the program is in.

But Texas A&M will not be any pushover. So they still have a lot of work to do to win the series.
