Tennessee football: Two Vols signees won’t report until later in the summer
Nearly all of the signees in the 2017 Tennessee football recruiting class have reported to campus. But the Volunteers are still waiting on two.
There were five early enrollees and 21 signees who reported today to make 26 signees from the 2017 Tennessee football recruiting class overall who have already reported to campus.
But according to Mike Griffith of SEC Sports, but the Vols are still waiting on a pair of wide receivers.
Jordan Murphy and Jacquez Jones will not enroll until later in the summer, according to reports.
Both players had their arrivals delayed due to the fact that they have to finish up academic work in their hometowns.
Murphy is a four-star on Rivals and the guy that Butch Jones and his staff likely want on campus immediately. Coming out of Hattiesburg High School in Hattiesburg, Miss., he was one of the top three players in Mississippi for 2017.
At 6’1″ 165 pounds, he could add more depth in the slot for Tennessee football and shows a lot of potential.
Meanwhile, Jones is another recruit who added to the Florida pipeline that the Vols are building thanks to Jones’s staff.
He is a three-star who comes out of Clearwater High School in Clearwater, Fla.
Listed at 5’11” and 164 pounds, he definitely fits the profile of a raw athlete who could do damage with the ball in his hands.
With a lack of depth at receiver right now, Murphy and Jones both have a great chance to see early playing time if they make an impression in August.
As a result, they will want to get on campus as quickly as possible. According to the report, they won’t be able to report to campus at least until the second term of summer schools.
The other receivers who reported and are also looking to make an early impression to get early playing time are Princeton Fant from LaVergne, Tenn. and Josh Palmer of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
