Tennessee football has 14-1 odds to win the Southeastern Conference championship. That gives the Volunteers the sixth best chance on BetOnline.com.
Among the six teams that have won the SEC Championship since the conference expanded in 1992, Tennessee football is last in its chances to win the conference according to early odds released by a sports book.
To be fair, the Vols have the longest drought among those six teams when it comes to winning the conference, so this does make sense.
The sports book BetOnline.com gave Tennessee football a 14-to-1 chance to win the SEC. Just in front of them were the Florida Gators, who come in with a 10-1 shot to win it. Behind them were the Texas A&M Aggies at 40-1 and then the Arkansas Razorbacks at 50-1.
Not surprisingly, the Alabama Crimson Tide are a -175 favorite to win the conference.
Following them in succession were the Auburn Tigers at 5-1, the LSU Tigers at 6-1, and the Georgia Bulldogs at 7-1.
At the bottom of the conference, the Vanderbilt Commodores got far and away the least amount of respect with a 150-1 chance to win the SEC.
Meanwhile, the Missouri Tigers, Mississippi State Bulldogs, and Kentucky Wildcats all followed that up with 80-1 chances.
And the South Carolina Gamecocks and Ole Miss Rebels came in at 66-1 apiece.
Considering the fact that they lost so many key players, it makes sense that Tennessee football would be down at 14-1 to win the SEC.
However, they do have numerous returning starters back, so there’s a great chance they could become a Cinderella team.
The two oddest odds here were Georgia and LSU, though.
Ed Orgeron hasn’t proven anything as a coach with the Tigers, and although Kirby Smart enters his second year with an elite recruiting class at Georgia, it’s hard to sell them being so high just because of those things given the fact that they had an 8-5 record a year ago.
