Butch Jones updates on Tennessee Vols defensive tackle Shy Tuttle and Margaret Hutson’s death lead the Volunteers news for Tuesday, June 13, 2017.

Tragedy is the story for the Tennessee Vols athletic program this Tuesday morning. One of the earliest athletic legends has died, and although it was a bit expected, it was still sad.

That’s what leads the news we are set to bring you on Rocky Top for this morning.

On lighter notes, we also have an update on one of the Vols’ elite football players along with news on Christian Coleman.

But let’s start with the tragedy.

Former Tennessee Lady Vols coach Margaret Hutson dies – Dan Fleser, Knoxville News Sentinel

Margaret Hutson coached the women’s Tennessee Vols basketball team for four years before Pat Summitt took over. A trailblazer for women’s sports on campus, she passed away at age 78 on Wednesday, June 7. Ironically, she died after battling Alzheimer’s disease, the same illness that killed Summitt.

"Under Hutson, who began teaching in UT’s Physical Education department in 1970, Tennessee was 60-19 in four seasons (1971-74), including 25-2 in her final season. In that era, play began in January.Hutson resigned from coaching in 1974 to pursue her doctorate degree. Summitt, who had been hired to be a graduate assistant, took over as head coach."

Butch Jones’s update on Shy Tuttle – Wes Rucker, GoVols247

Tennessee football defensive tackle has suffered two season-ending injuries his first two years in Knoxville. Once a four-star recruit, he now doesn’t have the same expectations for his junior year as he still recovers. But Jones said he will ‘absolutely’ be back.

"Tuttle, a highly junior touted defensive tackle who suffered a broken fibula in October 2015 and major ligament damage to his knee in October 2016, has faced — and continues to face — a long road back to the field in a fully-cleared capacity, and Jones isn’t about to be pinned down to a timetable. What Jones has continued to say, though, is that Tuttle will be back at some point."

Christian Coleman comments on whether or not he’ll turn pro – UTSports

After a historic weekend at the NCAA Track and Field NCAA Indoor and Outdoor Championships, Tennessee Vols star Christian Coleman gave a press conference Monday. The sprinter answered many questions. Here’s what he said about possibly turning pro early.

"“Well, I mean, I’m talking to a lot of my friends in the sport and they tell me right now that the ball is just in my court and I have all the time I need to be able to make that decision. You know, I have a lot of downtime between now and USAs and even after that so I have time to make that decision and see what I need to do.”"
