Tennessee football has been receiving a scare with four-star quarterback Adrian Martinez. But he reaffirmed his commitment to the Volunteers for 2018.

Given all the de-commitments Tennessee football suffered last year from top-notch athletes under Butch Jones, it’s now a scare for Vols fans any time an elite commitment looks elsewhere or even draws attention from elsewhere.

And that’s exactly how many of them felt when Adrian Martinez drew attention from the USC Trojans.

However, Martin, a four-star on Rivals, reaffirmed his commitment to the Tennessee football program Thursday afternoon on Twitter.

One of the interesting parts about that tweet is that Martinez specifically mentioned quarterback coach Mike Canales. That suggests Canales had a huge role in his commitment, and it spells good news for the Vols as long as Canales stays.

A 6’3″ 198-pound dual threat quarterback, Martinez is the perfect guy to add more depth to the system next year as its likely another quarterback will transfer out.

And Butch Jones has done a great job to make sure he has a good quarterback committed to every class.

Coming out of Clovis West High School in Fresno, Calif., though, it’s natural to freak out about a California quarterback drawing interest from the Trojans, especially if you see what happened to the Vols last year.

Martinez is a Top 200 prospect overall on Rivals and the No. 22 ranked player in the state of California.

He’s a Top 10 quarterback across the country for 2018.
