Tennessee Vols football coach Butch Jones on Phillip Fulmer and Big Orange Caravan dates lead the Volunteers news for Thursday, June 22, 2017.

This is the first day of the year that was shorter than the previous day. And yes, summer is officially here. But for Tennessee Vols fans, it’s just another day closer to the start of football season.

The news on Rocky Top for today involves the current and a former head coach of the Tennessee football program for one story.

Butch Jones comments on Phillip Fulmer’s new role – Mike Griffith, SEC Country

Tennessee Vols football coach Butch Jones weighed in on Fulmer’s new role with the program in an interview with SEC Country. As you might expect, Jones was all positive.

"“It’s an exciting time for the entire Tennessee family to have Coach Fulmer and his expertise and the ability to build relationships that he brings,” Jones told SEC Country on Wednesday. “I consider Coach a mentor and a great friend, and I think this is healthy for everyone involved, not just football, but the entire Tennessee community.”"

Vols 3B Jordan Rodgers on Gold Glove team American Baseball Coaches Association online

Tennessee baseball third baseman Jordan Rodgers was one bright spot on Dave Serrano’s team this year. After being named All-SEC, he just gained recognition for his defense as the 2017 ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove third baseman for 2017.

"The 2017 ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove Teams have been released by the American Baseball Coaches Association and Rawlings Sporting Goods in nine divisions of amateur baseball, from NCAA Div. I to High School. The Rawlings Gold Glove winners have been selected since 2007 in the collegiate and high school ranks, featuring many future Major League Baseball players."

Big Orange Caravan Tri-Cities dates – UTSports

The Big Orange Caravan has set the dates for the Tri-Cities. It’ll be in that part of Tennessee July 11, one day after the Vols take the stage at SEC Media Days.

"Tennessee Athletics, in partnership with the UT Knoxville Office of Alumni Affairs and the Office of Undergraduate Admissions, announced details Wednesday regarding next month’s Big Orange Caravan event in the Tri-Cities.The Kingsport Farmers Market (308 Clinchfield St, Kingsport, TN 37660) will serve as the host site on Tuesday, July 11 from 5-7 p.m. E.T."
