Tennessee Volunteers track and field star Christian Coleman has been named one of the three finalists for the USTFCCCA 2017 Bowerman Award.
The success and national recognition just keeps on coming for Tennessee Vols star Christian Coleman.
Coleman, who made the decision to turn pro and made sure to recognize his alma mater in the process, has been named a finalist for the 2017 Bowerman Award by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
The other two finalists for the award, which goes to the most outstanding male athlete for track and field, are Fred Kerley and Lindon Victor, both of the Texas A&M Aggies.
All three finalists were announced in a release on the website Thursday. Here’s what was said about Coleman.
"Coleman returned from competing in the 2016 Rio Olympic Games on a two-fold mission: To break records and leave no doubt he was the best short-distance sprinter at the collegiate level."
Throughout his time in Knoxville, Coleman has successful etched his name alongside Justin Gatlin in the Tennessee Track and Field book of legends.
Winner of the 100m and 200m national championships, Coleman also set a college record in the 100m in the prelims.
He’s already been named the USTFCCCA National Outdoor Track Athlete of the Year and the National Indoor Track Athlete of the Year. The Bowerman Award allows him to go for the sweep.
An 11-panel advisory decided the finalists, and voting for the winner includes a variety of entities voting, including a fan vote through June 30.
The winner will be presented with the award at the USTFCCCA Convention in Phoenix, Ariz., which takes place from Dec.13-16.
