The Tennessee Vols had a mediocre showing on the Spring Southeastern Conference Honor Roll list. There were 83 Volunteers on it overall.

Among the spring sports, the Tennessee Vols had numerous athletes reach a 3.0 GPA or higher overall.

According to SEC Sports online, Commissioner Greg Sankey’s announcement of the SEC Spring Honor Roll list included 83 Vols.

With 1,245 students on the SEC Spring Academic Honor Roll list overall, the Vols did slightly worse than the average of over 88 student athletes per school.

However, it’s a better showing than their 57 on the 2016 SEC Fall Academic Honor Roll list, which was significantly lower than the 73.5 people to make the list per school.

The spring numbers are similar to the 2016-2017 SEC Winter Academic Honor Roll list. The Tennessee Vols had 41 people on that list, which was below the average of 50 people per school.

For the spring overall, Tennessee had five baseball players, three men’s golf players, nine women’s golf players, 20 rowers, 12 softball players, three men’s tennis players, seven women’s tennis players, 11 men’s track and field athletes, and 13 women’s track and field athletes make the list.

Obviously, it wasn’t good for the school to be below the average in every one of the honor roll lists for the 2016-2017 academic year.

But the Tennessee Vols weren’t terrible.

And who knows? Maybe things will change under John Currie, even if we still say he was an awful hire.
