Track & field world championships, Tennessee Vols football recruiting weekend, and a new associate A.D. lead the Volunteers news for Monday, June 26, 2017.

Happy first Monday of summer to everybody. The Tennessee Vols had a plethora of news during the first weekend of Summer 2017.

And this time, none of it was bad.

That’s a nice plus for the Volunteers as they get set to head into July. Our news for you on Rocky Top today includes a recap of a big football recruiting weekend.

It also includes former Vols representing the school well in track and field. And there’s a new administrator for the program.

But let’s start with recruiting.

Tennessee football recruiting lands three weekend commitments – Steve Wiltfong, GoVols247

The Tennessee Vols secured commitments from two Georgia running backs over the weekend in Lyn-J Dixon and Anthony Grant and also flipped an LSU commit in Georgia defensive lineman Jamarcus Chatman.

"Lyn-J Dixon is as productive out of the backfield as they come and defensive lineman Jamarcus Chatman and athlete Anthony Grant also joined the fold giving Butch Jones and company 15 commits in the 2018 cycle."

Four former track and field Tennessee Vols headed to world championships – UTSports

Justin Gatlin, Christian Coleman, Tianna Bartoletta  and Aries Merritt all qualified over the weekend to go to the World Championship later this summer.

"Four Vols posted top-two finishes in five events at the USATF Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Sacramento State’s Hornet Stadium over the past four days."

Tennessee Vols hire new associate athletic director – Phil Kaplan, Knoxville News Sentinel

Kurt Gulbrand is a new senior associate athletic director for the Tennessee Vols. He will take on a role similar to what he had with Colorado: Coordinating fundraising for athletics.

"Gulbrand will now oversee the Tennessee Fund after spending the past 5-plus years in Boulder, Colo.“I’m thrilled to welcome Kurt and his family to the Tennessee family,” Currie said in a school release. “Kurt is well-known and widely respected nationally as a pacesetter for fundraising and development.”"
