Tennessee football five-star Cade Mays will not be at The Opening Finals. The Volunteers five-star has recently underwent surgery.

There are numerous Tennessee football targets set to be at Nike’s The Opening Finals in Beaverton, Ore. this week. However, only two commitments were on the list to go.

Now, that numbers is down to one.

Tennessee football commitment Cade Mays, the prized bull of the Vols’ 2018 recruiting class so far since he’s an in-state recruit, did not make the trip.

According to a report from Ryan Callahan of GoVols247, the 6’5″ 300-pound lineman from Catholic High School in Knoxville recently underwent surgery to remove a bone spur.

And that report came from Mays’s father, Kevin Mays. According to Kevin Mays, he couldn’t get medical clearance to take part in the event.

The injury has reportedly plagued him since last year, but he retained his five-star status. That means it could be interesting to see how great he becomes once he fully recovers.

That is actually pretty impressive.

Tennessee football’s offensive line has turned into a revolving door of elite talent thanks to players like Mays, as they seem to get one or two superstars at the position every year now.

On Rivals, Mays is ranked the top player in the state of Tennessee. Meanwhile, he is the No. 14 ranked player nationally and No. 2 ranked player at his position.

He is a big part of the reason Tennessee football’s class is currently in the Top 5. Whether or not he shows off at The Opening Finals is irrelevant to Vols fans. They just want to make sure he is as elite as his ranking once he hits college.
