That news includes some drama with one of Butch Jones’s assistants. Meanwhile, a former Vol has some intriguing comments.

There’s also some basketball news to bring you. But, as always, we start with the football news.

Penn State suing Bob Shoop – John Beauge, PennLive

The Penn State Nittany Lions are suing Tennessee Vols defensive coordinator Bob Shoop for nearly $900,000 over a breach of contract. The contract deals with when Shoop decided to leave the Nittany Lions, which he did back in 2016. However, the parties are staying somewhat quiet on the issue for now.

"According to court documents, a clause in Shoop’s contract stated if he resigned before his contract expired on Feb. 15, 2018, he had to pay Penn State liquidated damages of 50 percent “of his base pay” for the remainder of his contract. The contract also stated Shoop wouldn’t have to pay PSU back, if he became the head coach at another university within one year of the date of his resignation.Penn State said in the suit that despite written records, Shoop has not made any payments and through counsel has indicated a refusal to do so."

Raynoch Thompson on 2017 Tennessee Vols – Mike Griffith, SEC Country

Former Tennessee Vols linebacker Raynoch Thompson was one of the stars on the 1998 national championship team playing alongside Al Wilson. He also enjoyed a solid NFL career. Now, the two-time All-American is commenting on this upcoming Tennessee team. He says that physicality is key, but he didn’t lessen the importance of speed.

"Thompson, a second-round NFL draft pick in 2000 who played 64 games over five seasons in the NFL with the Arizona Cardinals, said in addition to physicality, Tennessee’s speed in the linebacking corps was a factor.“Coach (Phillip) Fulmer recruited safeties and played them at linebacker, and then linebackers to play at defensive end,” Thompson said. “Me, Al and Eric, we were all safeties in high school. The thought was to get more speed out there because we were playing Florida and they were spreading the field.”"

James Daniel showing confidence in Tennessee basketball – Grant Ramey, GoVols247

James Daniel just transferred to the Tennessee Vols from Howard, but the incoming guard is not hiding his confidence in Rick Barnes’s team. He shot for the stars with his expectations according to some quotes from him in this article.

"“I have very high expectations for our group,” said Daniel, who enrolled in June and instantly became the team veteran, as the only senior on roster. “I feel as though we have a young team, but these guys have a lot of experience from last year.“Adding me, adding Chris (Darrington), adding a couple freshmen, I feel as though we have a chance to compete for, not only to win the conference, but win a national title, I feel like.”"
