Tennessee Vols players at SEC Media Days and the basketball non-conference schedule lead the Volunteers news for Thursday, July 6, 2017.

It’s a big day of news for the Tennessee Vols. Two major stories broke about the upcoming year, including who from Rocky Top will head to SEC Media Days next week and news surrounding the 2017-2018 men’s basketball schedule.

As we get set to bring you today’s news, we’ll cover both of those points along with a few interesting quotes from new athletic director John Currie, who gave a radio interview on Wednesday.

But since this one is right around the corner, let’s start with the SEC Media Days news.

Three seniors to represent Tennessee Vols at SEC Media Days – UTSports

Tennessee football cornerback Emmanuel Moseley, offensive lineman Jashon Robertson, and defensive tackle Kendal Vickers will be the guys representing Rocky Top at SEC Media Days next week along with head coach Butch Jones. The Vols are set to take the stand on Monday.

"Robertson, Moseley and Vickers will all be making their SEC Media Days debuts. This year marks the second-straight year that Tennessee will bring three seniors to SEC Media Days as Joshua Dobbs, Jalen Reeves-Maybin and Cameron Sutton went in 2016."

The Tennessee Vols’ 2017-2018 slate of non-conference opponents is out. And this year, there’s no secret about the team that highlights it. The defending national champion North Carolina Tar Heels visit Thompson-Boling Arena Dec. 17. The Vols also have to face the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, Wake Forest Demon Deacons, and Iowa State Cyclones and play in the Battle 4 Atlantis Tournament.

"The Battle 4 Atlantis (Nov. 22-24 in the Bahamas) field includes Arizona, N.C. State, Northern Iowa, Purdue, SMU, Western Kentucky and Villanova. The bracket has not been announced."

John Currie praises Butch Jones – WKGN-AM 1340

Tennessee Vols athletic director John Currie heavily praised Butch Jones on Wednesday on a Fox Sports Radio-Knoxville interview. Currie noted the momentum and improvement in wins, but he also stressed that Jones helped dramatically improve the team’s academics. Here’s a bit of what he said.

"“First of all, I think Coach Jones has done a remarkable job of rebuilding our program, and I couldn’t be more proud to be affiliated with him and his wife, Barb. They are great people and they have done a great job of investing in the community in all the right ways, the results bear that out.”"
