Ranking every SEC football coach ahead of SEC Media Days: Where does Butch Jones stand?
Probably the least shocking ranking in the history of rankings on this site, Nick Saban remains No. 1 on this list.

He was one second away from coaching a team to a 15-0 record last year and winning his second straight national championship.
Take out two fluke plays, and the Tide should easily be on a 30-game winning streak right now.
Even without that, though, Saban has won three straight SEC Championships and a national championship in the past three years. That gives him five conference titles and four national titles at Alabama alone.
He’s very close to surpassing Bear Bryant as the greatest coach in school history, and he’s overseen an unprecedented decade of dominance in Tuscaloosa.
Part of Saban’s brilliance has been making sure to find the right staff, specifically on offense. That’s in addition to his recruiting and defensive genius.
He made the brilliant decision to bring Lane Kiffin to Alabama knowing how brilliant of an offensive mind the guy is.
Now, with Kiffin leaving, Saban faces another test. He and Kiffin put their minds together to change their offensive style to keep up with the times. He’s got to do the same thing with Steve Sarkisian gone along with Kiffin.
His hire of new offensive coordinator Brian Daboll will be the next thing to judge him on. However, the only judgment reserved for Saban at this point is his place among the greatest ever. We’re talking about the greatest coaches in college football history.
He’s far and away the best coach in the SEC, and nothing will change that after this year. He could go 0-12 and watch another SEC coach go 15-0 and win the national championship.
Saban will still have so much breathing room that his ranking will be No. 1 again next year. We’ll go ahead and spoil that part of our next coach ranking for you.
