Butch Jones did a lot of interesting things when he first took over as head coach of the Tennessee football program.
Part of the excitement coincided with a few new jersey combinations, which got even better after the Vols made the switch to Nike.
One of the most notable ones are the Smokey Gray jerseys, where the Vols where all grey.
Well, now there’s a new potential combination, and it looks even more impressive. The Top Shelf Uniforms Instagram account released a photo of a potential uniform combination in which the Vols wear their orange jerseys and orange pants with the Smokey Gray helmets.

This would be a sick combination. Honestly, the all orange is a bit too much sometimes. But it would have a nice contrasting pop to it if it went with the Smokey Gray helmets.
Butch Jones should definitely considering the 2017 Tennessee football team trying this combination at least once.
After all, he has a reputation of mixing things up just enough.
Tennessee should perhaps try this in an afternoon game in November. They should use their traditional Smokey Gray jersey combination for night games.
Use both of those combinations, and then the rest of the year go with traditional all white, orange jersey with white pants, or white jersey with orange pants.
That’s enough mixing and matching to keep things interesting throughout the season. And if we’re going to go with one more suggestion, it never hurts to maybe use the black jerseys once again that Lane Kiffin brought out in 2009.

Hey, it works great in the spirit of Halloween during the Fall. And as of right now, the Vols are 1-0 while wearing those jerseys.
