Film out on Pat Summitt’s influence on basketball in Iraq– Amy McRary, Knoxville News Sentinel
A film entitled ‘Pat: A Legacy of Love’ documents the work the late Tennessee women’s basketball legend Pat Summitt did to help rebuild women’s basketball in Iraq. It will air on Thursday, Sept. 7 at 7 p.m. at Knoxville’s Bijou Theatre. Tennessee graduates Sarah Hillyer and Ashleigh Huffman produced the film, telling a story about Hillyer went to a region in Iraq in 2007 to host the country’s first women’s basketball camp and realized the players needed equipment.
"So she and Huffman asked Summitt for help. Summitt gave that help.In 2009 the coach invited girls from an Iraqi sports club to one of her Knoxville basketball camps. The 2016 article says that after Summitt was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, a “We Back Pat” basketball tournament was held in Sulaymaniyah."
Butch Jones looking to Canada for help with start to 2017 – ESPN
Tennessee Vols head coach Butch Jones is aware that his team has a rough start to the season. They have to face the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, Indiana State Sycamores and Florida Gators all within 13 days. And Jones said they looked to another league to see how they can handle three games within a shorter than normal amount of time.
"“I don’t know if that’s ever been done. If it has, it hasn’t been done quite often,” Jones said Friday as the Vols reported to preseason camp. “We’ve tried to research everything from the Canadian Football League — how do they handle time off during the course of the week, getting your players back mentally and physically from what will be a very taxing 13 days.”"
