Tennessee football recruiting secured an Alabama prospect Wednesday. Three-star 2018 linebacker Matthew Flint committed to the Volunteers.

After losing two top targets to the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets in five days, Tennessee football offset some of its damage by securing an Alabama commitment Wednesday.

The Vols picked up a commitment from linebacker Matthew Flint. We noted in our post Tuesday about the losses to Georgia Tech that four-star linebacker Justice Dingle, GT’s pickups, was a huge loss for the Vols.

So Flint’s arrival can help make up for that. He announced his commitment to Tennessee on Twitter.

A three-star on Rivals, Flint comes out of Madison County high school in Gurley, Ala. He only stands at 6’0″ 205 pounds, but he makes up for it with very impressive speed. He had a 4.57 40-time at Nike’s The Opening regional Atlanta results back in March.

The guy is very versatile, as he lines up at linebacker and has played wide receiver, running back and fullback on offense.

Here is a look at his highlight reel as a linebacker.

As you can see the guy has amazing vision, knowing exactly where to position himself to make plays. On top of that, he comes around the edge extremely well, and he can stop people’s momentum gong forward when he makes tackles.

Given his size, it remains a mystery if he can do that at the next level. And his abilities in pass coverage remain a question. He simply hasn’t been tested there enough yet.

However, there are plenty of good things about him to bring up. Flint is the 19th commitment for Tennessee football’s 2018 recruiting class, which remains the No. 4 ranked class on Rivals and the No. 2 ranked class in the SEC.
