Trey Smith finding his spot with the Tennessee Vols and Montario Hardesty joining Lane Kiffin’s staff lead the Volunteers news for Thursday, Aug. 3, 2017.

The Tennessee Vols struck gold on the recruiting front yesterday with two huge commitments for 2018. And amidst those pickups, the preseason for 2017 still continues.

As we get set to bring you the news on Rocky Top for today, we’ll continue our focus on that preseason. Today’s updates include a top recruit from the previous class finding his roster spot and a former Vols joining a former…and hated…UT coach.

We also have some logistical news for fans to bring you.

Let’s start with preseason.

Tennessee Vols freshman Trey Smith settling into his position – Blake Morgan, SEC Country

The biggest star of the 2017 Tennessee football recruiting class, Trey Smith enters the season with a lot of hype as a freshman offensive lineman. Butch Jones and the coaches’ promotion of him during the spring only added to that hype as well. Now, it looks like he’s settling into his position, which will be guard.

"Coach Butch Jones said offensive lineman Trey Smith is finding his position for the fall. But Jones warned of expectations for Smith growing too quickly.“Trey’s settled in at guard, and I think we all have to be careful,” Jones said after practice Tuesday. “He’s never played one down of college football. Even us as coaches, we have to step back. He’s still a true freshman, and make sure that we don’t put too many expectations on him early.”"

Former Tennessee Vols running back joins Lane Kiffin’s staff – Wes Rucker, GoVols247

Montario Hardesty and Lane Kiffin are reuniting at Florida Atlantic. Kiffin announced on Twitter Tuesday that Hardesty has joined his staff on the Owls. Hardesty was at Tennessee from 2005 to 2009, but his standout year was that final year, the one year Kiffin was in Knoxville.

"After struggling with injuries and splitting reps with players like Arian Foster his first three seasons at Tennessee, Hardesty enjoyed a breakout season as a senior, collecting 1,647 yards and 14 touchdowns on 307 offensive touches. He was then selected by the Cleveland Browns in the second round of the 2010 NFL Draft, but injuries cut short his professional career after a few seasons."

“Meet Your Seats” is back for Tennessee Vols fans – UTSports

Tennessee Vols fans who have not yet bought season tickets for football or basketball this year will have a chance Friday to scope Neyland Stadium and Thompson-Boling Arena with the goal of finding the right seats if they’re interested. The event, called “Meet Your Seats,” will take place on Friday and last from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

"“Meet Your Seats” is an opportunity for Tennessee fans who do not currently have football or men’s/women’s basketball season tickets to come and visit both venues to look at seat options for the upcoming season. Fans will be able to see their options and sit in the seats before committing to season tickets."
