Tennessee Vols football media day, the quarterback race, and Justin Gatlin and Christian Coleman lead the Volunteers news for Monday, Aug. 14, 2017.

It’s Monday, and we’re exactly three weeks away from the start of the Tennessee Vols football season. And the news keeps getting more and more exciting.

Our updates for today on Rocky Top focus on the football preseason for the most part as a result. After all, it’s the only thing anybody can think about.

Here, we’ll include a general outlook on the Vols preseason after coaches and players spoke with the media on Sunday. But we also have an update on the biggest question in the preseason.

And we do go to another sport for a recap of how two former Vols performed on the international stage. But let’s start with the football news.

Tennessee Vols hold football media day Sunday – WVLT TV

Tennessee football players and coaches spoke on Sunday for their annual media day, 11 practices into their preseason. Butch Jones headlined the event with his own press conference and discussed the way the team is shaping up right now.

"Sunday afternoon marked Tennessee football’s annual media day at Neyland Stadium. Coach Jones, assistant coaches and players met with the media to discuss the upcoming season."

Still no Tennessee Vols starting quarterback – Patrick Brown, GoVols247

After headlining the annual football media day Sunday and the news surrounding things other coaches said, it’s clear that the Vols still have no confirmed starting quarterback. Although the race to replace Joshua Dobbs still comes down to Quinten Dormady and Jarrett Guarantano, it seems like things are completely up in the air for now.

"With summer classes out of the way, Tennessee is in full training-camp mode this week as the competition between Quinten Dormady and Jarrett Guarantano rages on.Dormady is widely considered the frontrunner for the starting job, but neither Jones nor quarterbacks coach Mike Canales have quashed the notion that both might play against the Yellow Jackets on Sept. 4."

Gatlin, Coleman help U.S. take home silver at men’s 4x100m relay – IAAF online

After both shockingly defeated Usain Bolt in the individual 100m race, Justin Gatlin and Christian Coleman helped the U.S. take home silver in the 4x100m relay in London at World Championships. The shocker, though, was who came in first: The Great Britain/Northern Ireland team.

"When the victory was confirmed on the giant screen – first Great Britain in 37.47, a European record and world lead, second the USA in 37.52 and third Japan in 38.04 – the stadium erupted in celebration, reminiscent of that other Super Saturday for track and field in the UK, when Jessica Ennis-Hill, Greg Rutherford and Mo Farah all won home golds at the 2012 Olympics in the same arena."
