Tennessee Vols quarterback Quinten Dormady, a rushing yards goal, and the Battle 4 Atlantis tournament lead the Volunteers news for Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2017.

We are now less than three weeks from the start of the 2017 Tennessee Vols football season. Yet there is still so much that needs to happen until then.

Butch Jones needs to find a starting quarterback, numerous other depth chart spots are up for grabs, and recruiting is still in full swing. Oh, and other schedules are beginning to come out.

As we get set to bring you today’s news on Rocky Top, we’ll focus on the football preseason. But there’s also some basketball news to bring you.

Let’s start with something related to the biggest offseason news for the Tennessee Vols: the quarterback race.

Quinten Dormady describes his demeanor – Mike Griffith, SEC Country

Quinten Dormady is in a race with Jarrett Guarantano to replace Joshua Dobbs as the next starting quarterback for the Tennessee Vols. And for now, he still appears to be the frontrunner. Recently, he addressed his perceived lack of charisma in media sessions, something even Mike Canales brought up on Sunday.

"“I go out each and very day and just compete and do the best I can — I’m not the rah-rah kind of guy, but I think I’m good at what I do,” said Dormady, who was 10 for 10 for 120 yards and 2 touchdowns in the Orange and White Game in April.“I’m just kind of a calm guy who goes about my business and does the best I can.”"

Battle 4 Atlantis bracket set – Atlantis Paradise Island Resort website

The Tennessee Vols basketball team will compete in the Battle 4 Atlantis tournament early this basketball season with seven other teams. And the bracket came out on Monday. Rick Barnes’s team will open the tournament against the Purdue Boilermakers on Wednesday, Nov. 22 at noon.

"The annual Battle 4 Atlantis once again falls during the Thanksgiving holiday, scheduled to take place November 22-24, 2017. The 12-game, three-day tournament is regarded as one of the most challenging early-season tournaments."

Tennessee Vols o-line hints at 2,000 yards for John Kelly – Jimmy Hyams, Gridiron Now

The Tennessee football offensive line has big goals for John Kelly this year. As the only confirmed started at the position to replace Alvin Kamara and Jalen Hurd, Kelly does have high expectations entering the year. And his offensive line is pushing those higher.

"“I feel like ‘JK’ can run for 2,000 yards,” sophomore left tackle Drew Richmond said.Is Kelly capable of that kind of season?“Of course,” senior center Jashon Robertson said. “He runs angry and he runs hard. And we love him."

Kyle Phillips on Derek Barnett – Wes Rucker, GoVols247

Derek Barnett’s early departure for the NFL meant the Tennessee Vols have to replace their top three defensive ends from last year, including Barnett, the best in school history. That leaves a huge opening for Kyle Phillips, once a five-star recruit who has struggled with injuries but is entering his junior season. As Phillips fights for a major role in the new rotation, he commented on Barnett’s fast start in the NFL, noting that he wasn’t surprised by Barnett’s two sacks for the Philadelphia Eagles in their first preseason game against the Green Bay Packers.

"Phillips, who played behind Barnett during the latter’s record-breaking career at Tennessee, said he more or less expected his former teammate to hit the ground running at the NFL level. He’d done it at every other level to that point, right?“Oh, that didn’t surprise me. Not at all,” Phillips said of Barnett, a fellow Nashville-area native. “Nothing he does surprises me.”"
