The start of SEC football is just two weeks away! And even though the Tennessee Vols will have to wait a few more days for their opener, it’s still incredibly exciting.

And the news we’re set to bring you on Rocky Top for today continues to cover the Tennessee football preseason. Only today, it’s a bit more feature-like.

After all, our lead story revolves around a Tennessee football legend coming back. We also have an interesting take from Athlon again.

For a little more diversity, there is a soccer story to bring you too.

Peyton Manning speaks to Tennessee Vols Wednesday – Grant Ramey, GoVols247

Tennessee football legend Peyton Manning was back on campus ahead of the Vols’ scrimmage Wednesday. He even had a sheet that appeared to show the playbook during the scrimmage. Beforehand, Manning gave a motivational speech to the team, telling them that outside talk doesn’t matter.

"Butch Jones said after Tuesday’s practice that he was going into Wednesday’s closed scrimmage looking for playmakers.Apparently the Vols had a pretty good playmaker on the sideline during the workout at Neyland Stadium."

Tennessee Vols in Athlon’s jersey rankings – Athlon Sports

The Tennessee football uniforms came in at No. 20 in Athlon’s ranking of college football jerseys. Now, the tricky part is the fact that the jersey talk was generic. And when you consider the fact that the Vols have multiple combinations, including all orange, orange shirts with white pants, all white, white shirts with orange pants, and then the Smokey Gray uniforms, there’s a lot to choose from in Knoxville.

"No one in the world has this shade of orange. Every time you see it, you think Tennessee Volunteers. That’s a branding identity you simply cannot put a price on."

With all the talk surrounding football season, we forget that the Tennessee Vols are also set to begin a season that the rest of the world calls football. That’s right, women’s soccer is right around the corner. And a few Vols on the team gained some recognition Wednesday.

"Tennessee junior Rylie O’Keefe and redshirt sophomores Katie Cousins and Maya Neal were named to the SEC preseason soccer watch list, the conference office announced Wednesday."
