The Tennessee Vols’ ranking in the preseason AP Poll, fall camp closing and injuries lead the Volunteers news for Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2017.

The eclipse is over, which means it’s time to go back to our regular lives as Americans: screaming at each other about politics, enjoying the final hot days of August and getting ready for football season. That last one has Tennessee Vols fans everywhere excited.

And there’s plenty of news surrounding it to bring you today. With the season-opener less than two weeks away, our updates on Rocky Top include another injury report, the closing of fall camp and the preseason AP Poll.

Tennessee Vols athletic director John Currie also gave an update to Vol Nation with another letter on Monday. We’ll get to that as well.

Let’s start, however, with the biggest topic of discussion from Monday. And it revolves around rankings.

Tennessee Vols ranked No. 25 in AP Poll – The AP Top 25 Poll online

For the third straight year, Tennessee football enters the preseason ranked in the AP Poll. The Vols came in at No. 25, two weeks after they came in at No. 24 in the Coaches Poll. They are one of six SEC teams in the preseason AP Top 25. Being ranked in both polls shows the strides they’ve taken as a program under Butch Jones.

"The AP Top 25 is determined by a simple points system based on how each voter ranks college football’s best teams. A team receives 25 points for each first place vote, 24 for second place and so on through to the 25th team, which receives one point."

Fall camp came to an end for Tennessee football on Monday, as Butch Jones and the Vols held their 18th preseason practice. Obviously, there’s still a lot to figure out with the season only 13 days away. But camp appeared to be productive.

"Tennessee held Monday morning’s fall football camp practice at Neyland Stadium as head coach Butch Jones and the Vols focused on situational football.“Right now, we have to have the discipline to execute,” Jones said."

Tennessee Vols CB Shaq Wiggins injured – Ryan Callahan, GoVols247

Tennessee football senior transfer cornerback Shaq Wiggins has been injured for a few days now, according to reports. That could be a crucial injury for the Vols, who would love to have Wiggins available to offset the loss of Cameron Sutton. A graduate transfer from the Louisville Cardinals, Wiggins figured to step in and make an immediate impact as a newcomer this year for the team.

"Tennessee coach Butch Jones said Monday that fifth-year senior cornerback Shaq Wiggins, a graduate transfer from Louisville who joined the Vols in June, has missed “a number of days” with a hip injury, but the Vols are hoping he’ll be able to return to the field soon."

John Currie letter to Vol Nation – UTSports

Tennessee Vols athletic director John Currie wrote another letter to Rocky Top on Monday. In it, he addressed the soccer team’s 2-0 start, the volleyball opener, football tickets and the losses of Eli Fry and Frank Broyles.

"Tickets for our Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game against Georgia Tech and our Sept. 30 home game against Georgia are sold out. Only a small number of single seats remain available for the Nov. 18 home game vs. LSU."
