Once upon a time, Georgia Tech was a huge rivalry for Tennessee football fans. Don’t forget that they spent decades in the SEC.

Even after they left, the Vols and the Yellow Jackets had plenty of meetings. It makes sense considering the fact that they’re only about three hours apart.

The Chick-fil-A Kickoff Classic is clearly trying to recreate the hype behind that rivalry with its new video, promoting the game between the two schools in Atlanta at the newly constructed Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Labor Day.

It may be a big of an anti-climactic game since it follows Alabama vs Florida State, Saturday’s game in the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Classic. But there is still a lot riding on this game, so it’s something to get fans extremely exciting.

Check out the epic video hyping it up here.

Although that 14-13 Georgia Tech win was the last time the two played in Atlanta, the last time they played at all was the next year, 1987. Tennessee football won that game 29-15.

In the 30 years that have passed since that last meeting, both teams have captured one national championship. The Vols have developed a rivalry with Georgia Tech’s common rival, the Georgia Bulldogs. And recruiting wars have been big between the two schools when you consider how much Tennessee football recruits Atlanta.

Now, going into this year, both teams are breaking in a new quarterback coming off a 9-4 season. Analysts have no idea what to expect from either team. But you can bet this game will play a huge role in setting the tone for the season.
