Tennessee Vols morning report: Football roster updates, Lady Vols media session
Tennessee Vols football roster updates and a women’s basketball media session lead the Volunteers news for Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2017.
The Tennessee Vols football season now kicks off in less than a week. Excitement is boiling over in Knoxville, and it will only grow as time goes on.
Vols fans can actually spend Saturday just enjoying opening games because of the fact that their game against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets is on Monday. But the delay on the game also creates delays on updates from Butch Jones.
Right now, the roster is still up in the air. But that’s a topic of discussion, and it leads our news on Rocky Top for today.
On top of that, the Lady Vols bring their own news to the table. Let’s start, though, with the football depth chart.
Hot topics for Butch Jones include injuries, quarterbacks – Dan Fleser, Knoxville News Sentinel
Tennessee Vols head coach Butch Jones is now in preparation mode for the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. However, there are still numerous questions surrounding the game. These questions include the starting quarterback, the depth chart, and the injuries. Most notable among the injuries right now is the timetable for linebacker Darrin Kirkland Jr.’s return.
"Butch Jones has plenty to talk about Wednesday when he holds a press conference to preview the first game of the 2017 season. But how much will Tennessee’s football coach really say?"
Tennessee Vols defensive end rotation still a question – Ryan Callahan, GoVols247
Going into the year, we still expect a three-man rotation at defensive end for the Vols with Jonathan Kongbo, Kyle Phillips and Darrell Taylor. But the exact starters still appear to be a question according to new defensive line coach Brady Hoke. And they could use other guys in that rotation as well.
"Hoke has indicated that he’s hoping to rotate up to 10 defensive linemen this season. He said he’s optimistic that the Vols will be able to use that many linemen, but it might not happy right away."
Tennessee Lady Vols hold media session – UTSports
The Tennessee Vols women’s basketball season is less than three months away, and major players with the team gave a preview of what’s to come in a media session on Monday.
"Tennessee women’s basketball head coach Holly Warlick and seniors Jaime Nared and Mercedes Russell met with the media on Monday afternoon at the Ray and Lucy Hand Digital Studio."
