Tennessee football’s 42-41 in double-overtime victory over the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets had some extreme highs and lows. Here are the Volunteers’ grades.

Things are always odd when you go up against a triple-option team in college. And it was no different for the Tennessee football program when they faced the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets Monday night.

The Vols squeaked out a one-point win in double-overtime that they had no business getting. It took some questionable coaching decisions by Paul Johnson and key mistakes from that team for it to happen.

However, to be fair, there were plenty of Tennessee football units that played extremely well. They deserve as much credit for the win as Georgia Tech’s mistakes.

At the same time, other units played extremely poorly. In fact, you’d be hard-pressed to find a game where there was such a drastic difference in the play among some of the units.

A win is still a win, and the Vols escaped a triple-option offense in the Chick-fil-A Classic in Atlanta with a 1-0 record. So they should be happy.

But it was definitely a tough one, and there was certainly a bit of luck involved. It was luck with a few people who played amazing. And the luck was needed because of other players who played awful.

With a win, though, there’s definitely some good news. And we’ll break it all down here.

So here we go evaluating each position group, as they produced extremely different results. These are the grades for each Tennessee football unit following their 42-41 victory over the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets.
