Jauan Jennings’s injury, the Tennessee Vols’ Top 25 rankings and Trevor Daniel lead the Volunteers news for Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2017.

The Tennessee Vols are now midway through the week and should be getting ready for Indiana State. However, it’s hard to do that when they’re still likely so elated after their 42-41 overtime win over the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets.

But not all the news that came out of that is good. Of course, on a very serious note, Hurricane Irma is threatening to cause major devastation in the Atlantic as the U.S. still attempts to recover from Harvey.

We give our updates on Rocky Top for Wednesday, Sept. 6 with every victim and potential victim in our thoughts from these storms.

The Tennessee Vols news, meanwhile, includes an injury to a key player that could devastate their team. Their national standing after such a close win is also a focus.

And there is some good news with one football player getting national recognition and a soccer player getting SEC recognition. We’ll get to all of that. But let’s start with the bad news.

Jauan Jennings expected to miss up to 12 weeks – Austin Price and Jesse Simonton, VolQuest

Tennessee Vols go-to wide receiver Jauan Jennings suffered a dislocated wrist against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets on Monday and could miss up to 12 weeks. That puts Butch Jones and Quinten Dormady in serious trouble. They have to be able to find more playmakers. At least Marquez Callaway was a diamond that emerged. But they now need more.

"Tennessee entered Monday night with Jennings as the only wide out available with a touchdown catch his career. Senior Josh Smith (shoulder sprain) is expected to return to the field soon, though."

Vols move up in Coaches Poll, still No. 25 in AP – Blake Toppmeyer, Knoxville News Sentinel

The Tennessee Vols moved up to No. 21 in the Amway Coaches Poll after their 42-41 double-overtime win over the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets on Monday. Meanwhile, they remained No. 25 in the AP Poll.

"The Vols accumulated 191 points in the coaches poll and slotted in between No. 20 South Florida and No. 22 Washington State. In the AP poll, Tennessee tallied 124 points. The Vols came in behind No. 24 Notre Dame and ahead of Utah, the top receiving vote-getter outside the Top 25, with 96 points."

Trevor Daniel the Ray Guy punter of the week – RayGuyAward.com

Tennessee Vols punter Trevor Daniel averaged 47 yards a punt on Monday night with a net average of 45.83 in his team’s 42-41 win over the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. Included in that stat line was five of six punts being pinned inside the 20-yard line and one punt that went 70 yards. As a result, he was recognized as the Ray Guy punter of the week.

"Daniel played a huge role for Tennessee in their double overtime comeback win over Georgia Tech in Monday night’s Chick-Fil-A Kickoff game in Atlanta, Ga. Daniel punted 6 times for 282 yards."

Khadija Shaw named SEC offensive player of the week – SEC Staff

Tennessee Vols soccer player Khadija Shaw was named SEC offensive player of the week after scoring eight points on four goals to help her team to wins over Belmont and Middle Tennessee.

"Shaw recorded Tennessee’s first hat trick since 2011, scoring three goals on three shots in the 3-0 win over Belmont. She added the game-winning goal against Middle Tennessee on Sunday. Shaw leads team with 6 goals and 12 points this season."
