Tennessee Vols morning report: Jarrett Guarantano playing, Eric Berry hurt

Plans to play Jarrett Guarantano and an injury to former Tennessee Vols safety Eric Berry lead the Volunteers news for Friday, Sept. 8, 2017.

Happy Friday to everybody! As we get set to kick off your weekend with Tennessee Vols news you need to know, let’s first stop and think about the victims of all the natural disasters in this area right now.

Hurricane Irma is barreling towards Florida, there’s been a devastating earthquake in Mexico, and cleanup from Harvey continues. Meanwhile, Hurricanes Jose and Katia are threatening as well. So everybody affected by these disasters are in our thoughts.

Now, to the news on Rocky Top. Tennessee football doesn’t have much going on outside of what should be a throwaway victory Saturday against the Indiana State Sycamores. But obviously, they can’t take that lightly.

Our updates today begin with Butch Jones’s quarterback plan for that game. So let’s get to it.

Jones says Jarrett Guarantano will play vs. Indiana St. – Wes Rucker, GoVols247

Tennessee Vols head coach Butch Jones said on Thursday that both Quinten Dormady and Jarrett Guarantano would play on Saturday against Indiana State. That is obviously a departure from what happened on Monday, when Dormady played the whole game.

"Jones suggested he had a plan for how to use both quarterbacks against the Sycamores on Saturday, but he didn’t unveil that plan and suggested that plan might become irrelevant during the game."

Eric Berry suffers possible season-ending injury – Greg Rosenthal, NFL.com

Former Tennessee Vols safety Eric Berry suffered a serious injury in the Kansas City Chiefs’ stunning season-opening victory over the New England Patriots Thursday night. Chiefs coach Andy Reid says it could be a torn Achilles tendon.

"Berry was carted off the field midway through the fourth quarter and didn’t return. Berry immediately took off his gloves after the injury, a telling sign for a player whose leadership and toughness helped to define his organization."

Tennessee Vols soccer defeats Bucknell – UTSports

Tennessee soccer moved to 7-0 on the season after the Vols shut out Bucknell on the road by a score of 1-0. Redshirt junior Anna Bialczak scored her second goal of the season in the second half to secure the Vols’ win.

"Strong winds and a deluge of rain put a damper on play during much of the first half. The weather cleared during the second half as the Vols stepped up their offensive intensity."
