Tennessee Vols football injuries and Florida Gators suspensions for Saturday’s game lead the Volunteers updates for Friday, Sept. 14, 2017.
It’s getting closer! Tennessee Vols fans everywhere are having a hard time controlling their excitement for what is always their biggest game of the year. And now, it’s two days away. This is what college football’s all about!
Tennessee-Florida is always the game to set the tone for the SEC East race, and this year is no different. As we get set to bring you today’s news on Rocky Top, this game is the focal point of the day.
However, we also have some basketball news to bring you, which shows that the athletic season is now in full swing in mid-September.
Let’s get started with updates on the Vols for Saturday.
Three injured Tennessee Vols out vs. Florida – Ryan Callahan, GoVols247
Butch Jones confirmed that Tennessee football will be without linebacker Austin Smith, tight end Eli Wolf and cornerback Baylen Buchanan when they face the Florida Gators in The Swamp on Saturday. Those injuries can hurt, but they aren’t the most devastating ones.
"Jones also said senior safety Evan Berry, Tennessee’s standout kick returner, is “questionable” for the 23rd-ranked Vols’ SEC opener against the 24th-ranked Gators (0-1) at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium in Gainesville, Fla.But Tennessee (2-0) otherwise expects its recently injured players to be available Saturday afternoon."
Nine Gators likely to remain suspended vs. Vols – John Taylor, College Football Talk
Florida coach Jim McElwain said that there are no updates on the nine Gators who were suspended at the start of the season due to misuse of scholarship money. Analysts have noted that a response like that indicates they’ll remain suspended at least through the Tennessee Vols game. That leaves the Gators without key players like Antonio Callaway and Jordan Scarlett.
"Callaway and Scarlett are easily the two most critical suspensions. The former led the Gators in receiving each of the last two seasons, while the latter was the team’s leading rusher with 889 yards during the 2016 season."
