Tennessee Vols athletic director John Currie speaking on the loss to Florida and more injuries lead the Volunteers updates for Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2017.

It’s Tuesday, meaning it’s time for the Tennessee Vols to look ahead to the next football game. But that is still difficult to do given the game that Butch Jones’s team just blew to the Florida Gators on the road.

As we get set to bring you the news on Rocky Top for today, the after-effects from that loss still lead the way. We have injury updates to bring you and comments from the athletic director on what happened.

We also have a recap of the weekend related to another sport to bring you. There is a bit of looking forward to do, to be fair, including a football game in the future.

And believe it or not, that is actually a bit of good news surrounding the program. But we still start with the football drama.

Tennessee Vols A.D. John Currie on loss to Florida – Wes Rucker, GoVols247

Tennessee athletic director John Currie spoke in an interview Monday about the Vols’ performance in their loss to the Florida Gators in The Swamp last Saturday. Currie kept everything bright, defending the Vols for fighting back. And then he, among all people, was the guy to stand up and defend Butch Jones.

"“He’s working very diligently and very hard to lead our program,” Currie said. “This is a challenging conference. Every team has it strengths and every team has its weaknesses, so to speak. I enjoy the time that we spend together.”"

Jennings, McDowell out for the season – Zach Barnett, College Football Talk

Tennessee Vols wide receiver Jauan Jennings and linebacker Cortez McDowell are now both out for the season. With the loss of them, the Vols will need even more out of Marquez Callaway at wide receiver and have to turn more to Colton Jumper, Quart’e Sapp, Daniel Bituli, and even Elliott Berry and Dillon Bates at linebacker.

"Jennings left Tennessee’s Labor Day victory over Georgia Tech in the second quarter after absorbing as he collected a catch over the middle, his third of the game. Jennings did not return to the game and will not for the rest of the season, forcing the 2-1 Volunteers to move forward without their top returning pass-catcher.Additionally, McDowell was lost during the Vols loss to Florida on Saturday."

Tennessee-Georgia game-time set – Blake Toppmeyer, Knoxville News Sentinel

The Tennessee Vols will face off against the Georgia Bulldogs in another 3:30 p.m. CBS game a week from Saturday. This is the third straight year that this game will be in the CBS primetime slot.

Brad Nessler, Gary Danielson and reporter Allie LaForce will be on the broadcast. The Vols played Florida in that CBS slot on Saturday, losing 26-20 on the final play

Khadija Shaw named SEC offensive player of the week in soccer – SECSports

Tennessee Vols junior Khadija Shaw just can’t stop getting recognition from the Southeastern Conference. Shaw was named SEC Offensive Player of the Week after playing a huge role in helping the Vols win their SEC opener 3-0 against the Kentucky Wildcats Sunday to move to 9-0.

"Tennessee’s Khadija Shaw, a junior forward from Spanish Town, Jamaica, was the only player to have multiple goals vs. SEC opponents in the opening weekend of conference play by scoring twice against Kentucky. She now has team-leading eight goals through nine games; she has scored at least two goals in three games this year."
