Happy Friday! After a brutal week in dealing with the aftermath of the Tennessee Vols’ loss to the Florida Gators, the weekend is finally here. And Rocky Top can somewhat put that loss behind them.
Butch Jones’s team has another tune-up game this weekend against the UMass Minutemen, but we’ve covered most of that for this week. Our news for today goes a little deeper.
We have news to bring you on a football freshman and some soccer updates. The big story of the day, though, is the follow-up on the allegations one former Vol made against another.
In this bizarre situation, we start with that story.
Jackson responds to Haynesworth allegations – Travis Dorman, Knoxville News Sentinel
Former Tennessee Lady Vol player Brittany Jackson denied former Tennessee Vols football star Albert Haynesworth’s allegations that she inflicted domestic and physical abuse on him. Jackson said the accusations are ‘absurd.’
"In the statement provided to the Knoxville News Sentinel late Thursday, Jackson begins by saying she is “saddened and humiliated” by Haynesworth’s recent Twitter tirade against her, “the mother of our beautiful child.”"
Trey Smith recognized by Pro Football Focus – PFF Twitter
Three games into the season, Tennessee Vols freshman Trey Smith is already getting lots of recognition. And on Twitter Thursday, Pro Football Focus’s college football handle listed Smith in the top five of a list it did ranking freshmen in college football.

Tennessee Vols soccer team ties Auburn – UTSports
The Tennessee Vols suffered their first blemish of the season in soccer on Thursday, tying the Auburn Tigers 1-1. But they are still undefeated. With the win, Tennessee falls to 9-0-1 and 1-0-1 in the SEC.
"Going into the the contest, Tennessee was one of just two remaining undefeated and untied teams in NCAA Division I soccer, along with Texas (8-0-0).Tennessee struck first in the 30th minute with a goal from Meghan Flynn off a through ball delivered by Khadija Shaw. Flynn now has three goals on the 2017 campaign. Her goal came less than two minutes after entering the contest."
