The Georgia Bulldogs are the only team with two major quality wins in the conference, and as a result, they have a case to actually be No. 1 in our SEC Power Rankings. This team has really come together under Kirby Smart, and at 4-0, he looks like the most successful Nick Saban protege this year.

Smart’s defense shut down the best quarterback and the best offensive mind in the SEC last Saturday by dominating the Mississippi State Bulldogs 31-3.

And their offense was pretty amazing as well. With Jake Fromm still filling in as a backup quarterback, the coaches used him beautifully. And that made him a highly efficient, player, going 9-of-12 for 201 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions.

Nick Chubb is still running hard, and the Dawgs now have a stable of backs.

Add in the fact that they still have Jacob Eason eventually coming back, and it’s hard to find a team in a better situation.

Meanwhile, their win over the Notre Dame Fighting Irish looks pretty great now too with Brian Kelly’s team dominating the Michigan State Spartans.

So yeah, Georgia should feel pretty good about how good it is. But this is just where it begins.

The Dawgs have a tough game against the Tennessee Vols this week on the road. As ugly as Tennessee has looked so far, they’ve won the last two vs. Georgia.

They then have to face the Vanderbilt Commodores on the road, who also beat them last year. And the Florida Gators, Auburn Tigers and Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets are still on the slate.

So while national championship talk is now on the table, this team has a lot of work to do to get there.
