After catapulting the Mississippi State Bulldogs to No. 1 in our SEC Power Rankings last week and then the events of the weekend, it’s safe to say we’re a bit embarrassed. Not only did Mississippi State get blown out.

Nick Saban’s Alabama Crimson Tide reminded us why nobody but them should be No. 1 until they lose a game. In one of the most dominating performances in SEC history, Alabama proved its still around.

The offense looked as good as ever, even without Lane Kiffin, dominating the Vanderbilt Commodores 59-0. They put up over 600 yards in the game in Nashville.

Meanwhile, the defense held this team to under 100 yards. The first down stat line alone was 38-3, which signifies total domination beyond what anybody could imagine.

And don’t think for a second it was because Vanderbilt was overrated.

They beat a very good Kansas State Wildcats team the week before, one of the teams that will be elite this year under Bill Snyder.

So this is a very good team.

And their win combined with playing the game at home got Alabama to focus. Their focus made them unstoppable, which is why they dominated.

They showed exactly who they are when they’re on point, and it’s why they should remain No. 1 in our SEC Power Rankings. We never should have dropped them to begin with.

Jalen Hurts is as good as ever, and he’s efficient, and once again, nobody can score on that defense when it actually plays hard. This team is so good it could actually make Saban proud. And that’s beyond hard to do.
