Tennessee Vols morning report: Shy Tuttle injury, Butch Jones rant
Tennessee Vols head coach Butch Jones going on a rant and an injury update on Shy Tuttle lead the Volunteers news for Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2017.
It just gets uglier and uglier for the Tennessee Vols football program. After a hideous win Saturday, a fluke injury and a Butch Jones rant became the stories on Monday.
And things like that have been the story of the program this year. As we get set to bring you Tuesday morning’s news on Rocky Top, that hasn’t changed.
There is a bit of looking ahead, to be fair. With the Georgia Bulldogs coming in this week, Tennessee football has another update fans are waiting to see. But for the most part, it continues to be embarrassing.
And as the football program gets set to prepare for Georgia this week, they’ve got a lot of issues to solve.
Let’s start with the updates on why.

Tennessee football coach Butch Jones finally laid into the media for their coverage of the program on Monday. Jones, whose seat is extremely hot, called the negative media coverage ‘overwhelming.’ Here’s a quote from him.
"“If everyone is Vols fans, how do we let our opponents use this in the recruiting process with fake news? And sometimes, again, we have to check ourselves. What are we here for? What’s our values and principles that guide our life every single day?”"
Shy Tuttle injury caused by helmet – Blake Toppmeyer, Knoxville News Sentinel
Tennessee Vols defensive tackle Shy Tuttle was injured in a freak accident involving a helmet, not another teammate, according to Butch Jones.
"Tuttle and center Jashon Robertson missed Saturday’s game against Massachusetts with undisclosed injuries."
Tennessee Vols release depth chart for Georgia game – Patrick Brown, GoVols247
The Tennessee football depth chart continues to be altered by a rash of injuries. But Quinten Dormady remains the starter at quarterback, John Kelly is the starter at running back, and Marquez Callaway is still in there at receiver, as the Vols released their depth chart for the Georgia game.
"The Bulldogs (4-0, 1-0 SEC) will come to Neyland Stadium as 7.5-point road favorites against the Vols (3-1, 0-1), who have won the past two in the rivalry with both games going down to the final play."
