The Tennessee Vols preparing for the Georgia Bulldogs, updates on injuries and uniform options lead the Volunteers updates for Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2017.

It’s hump day, and morale remains low among Tennessee Vols fans. But now that Wednesday is here, we’re three days away from their chance to redeem themselves out on the football field.

As we get set to bring you the news on Rocky Top for today, a look ahead to the game against the Georgia Bulldogs this Saturday leads our coverage. Football is the dominant story of the day once again across the board.

Of course, fans may not want to think about the football program right now considering how bad of shape it appears to be in. But it is what’s most relevant right now.

So let’s get to talking about it. We start with the look ahead to the Dawgs.

Assistant coaches, players speak on Georgia – UTSports

Another Tennessee Vols media session was held on Tuesday, and Quinten Dormady, Kyle Phillips and Brandon Johnson along with assistant coaches all talked about preparing for the Bulldogs. But as the Vols focus on the Dawgs, there are few expectations for them from the fans.

"The Vols (3-1, 0-1 SEC) have won the past two meetings with the Bulldogs (4-0, 1-0 SEC), with both victories coming in comeback fashion. UT was down 24-3 in its last home game against Georgia in 2015 before surging back for a 38-31 win. Last season, the Vols trailed by 10 points entering the fourth quarter before eventually winning the game on a 43-yard Hail Mary from Joshua Dobbs to Jauan Jennings as time expired."

Tennessee Vols linebacker returns to practice – Ryan Callahan, GoVols247

Daniel Bituli has exploded onto the scene starting at linebacker for the injured Austin Smith. But Smith was back at practice Wednesday and may finally be ready to go for Saturday.

"Smith has yet to appear in a game this season because of a knee injury he suffered on Sept. 1, just three days before the Vols’ season-opening win over Georgia Tech."

Tennessee Vols to wear ‘Smokey Greys’ Saturday – Phil Kaplan, Knoxville News Sentinel

Tennessee football is already planning on ‘Checker Neyland’ when they face the Georgia Bulldogs Saturday. They also have their ‘Smokey Grey’ uniforms in the works. The Vols are 3-0 when wearing the ‘Smokey Greys’ ever since they have been sponsored by Nike, and they’re 1-2 when checkering Neyland. However, they are 1-0 when doing both. And in two of their wins in the ‘Smokey Greys,’ they’ve come back from 21 down to win.

"The Vols wore the Smokey Grey uniforms with orange lettering twice last year, beating Florida at home and defeating Nebraska in the Music City Bowl.It will be the third straight home game Tennessee has used the Smokey Grey uniforms against Georgia. The Vols won in 2015 and lost in 2013."
