The Tennessee Volunteers remained near the bottom of our SEC Power Rankings following Week Five of the college football season.

Tennessee football is a complete mess right now, Butch Jones is on the hot seat, and the Vols join a list of bad teams in the conference where morale is at an all-time low. They all are fighting for spots near the bottom of our SEC Power Rankings this week as well.

This past weekend of conference games brought either thrillers that were an indictment against one team or embarrassing blowouts. CBS likely regrets ever deciding to air a game featuring a team from Tennessee the past two weeks.

But it at least showed who the clear-cut top teams in the conference were. And for a week, it makes our SEC Power Rankings a little bit more clear.

How long that last remains up in the air.

As we get set to sort out the teams in the Southeastern Conference this week, it’s important to note that we still place a heavy emphasis on head to head. Margin of victory is a factor, but it’s only one that will do you in if it stands out.

We also have to weigh when things happen. With October here, everything is in midseason form. As a result, older wins can lose a bit of their value.

Again, everything comes into play. What’s clear, though, is once again, every team in the conference is questionable right now outside of three.

Two major programs, meanwhile, are a complete dumpster fire.

Let’s break down who they are, and let’s also find out who the elite teams are. These are our SEC Power Rankings after the fifth week of the college football season.
