With Butch Jones on the hot seat, new Tennessee football coaching candidates have popped up. Here are five guys the Volunteers should leave off the list.

It’s pretty clear right now that Butch Jones is a dead man walking. Unless he pulls a Lazarus and engineers a miraculous turnaround, he will very likely not be Tennessee football’s head coach once the year is over.

Many fans, and not without merit, are actually annoyed that John Currie has not fired Jones already. However, it is fair to let him finish out the season. Hey, maybe he’ll shock the world, fix everything in the bye week, and come out and upset the Alabama Crimson Tide on the road en route to a 10-2 finish.

Okay, now that I’m done laughing at myself for even hinting at that sentence, it’s time to get back to reality. And speaking of reality, Tennessee football needs a dose of it too.

With the likelihood that Jones will not return, Vols fans everywhere are looking for their next guy. However, they have put a ton of people on the list. And some of them simply don’t belong.

In this post, we’ll name the guys who should not be candidates to coach Tennessee. Some of these guys just won’t come. Others would simply be bad hires.

But regardless of the reason, the university administration should not waste one second on any of these guys. It will not do them any good.

So let’s break down the guys that we should all just stop talking about now. This is something Rocky Top needs to wake up. These are the top five people who should not be candidates for Tennessee football’s next head coach.
