The LSU Tigers may have made the dumbest move in history firing Les Miles and replacing him with Ed Orgeron. However, Tennessee football would be making a seriously dumb move by firing Butch Jones and replacing him with Miles.

  • At that point, they would be replacing Jones with a guy who is exactly the same on the sideline. Make no mistake, Miles is no better than Jones with in-game management.

He just had a heck of a lot more luck on his side. For every game Butch Jones coached away, Miles has coached away two games but was just lucky to pull a rabbit out of his hat.

Remember, this guy managed to make the national championship game when his team had two losses. And that was during the BCS years.

In the three seasons with the College Football Playoff, there is still no team that has done that.

That luck may just be something that sticks with LSU unless you have a terrible coach like Orgeron leading the program.

    It won’t stick with Tennessee.

So in Miles, the Vols would get a guy who is even worse with in-game coaching decisions. On top of that, they’d get a guy who brings baggage.

Miles was at Oklahoma State during the documented period of their alleged recruiting indiscretions, which you can read about here in a 2013 SI story.

So again, he brings nothing to the table that Jones doesn’t already bring. And that would make the hire of him pointless.
