It’s been a tragic week in the news world, but we say happy Friday to everybody anyway. And we say it thinking about everybody who has struggled this week, from Puerto Rico to Las Vegas, as we get set to bring you our news surrounding the Tennessee Vols to kick off the weekend.
If they’re not speculating about who to replace Butch Jones with, Vol Nation is in hibernation mode right now. After all, this is the bye week for Tennessee football.
However, we do have some updates to bring you surrounding the program. Also, we got our first take at basketball season tipping off on Thursday. And there was some good news on the soccer front as well.
But let’s start with the football news, and it’s not really good news.
Darrell Taylor suspended for a half vs. Gamecocks – Blake Toppmeyer, Knoxville News Sentinel
Tennessee Vols defensive end Darrell Taylor is suspended for the first half of the team’s next game against the South Carolina Gamecocks. Taylor’s suspension comes due to his ejection from the game against the Georgia Bulldogs for a personal foul after starting a fight. Kyle Phillips will start in his place opposite Jonathan Kongbo.
"NCAA rules state that personal foul penalties for fighting include the player being suspended for the first half of the subsequent game if the penalty occurred in the second half.Phillips has been the Vols’ top backup at the position. He has nine tackles."
Tennessee basketball holds media day – Grant Ramey, GoVols247
The Tennessee Vols basketball team held its annual media day Thursday to get ready for the 2017-2018 season. Talk about the five newcomers, the sophomore leadership, and the optimism surrounding the program led the sessions.

Tennessee soccer defeats Ole Miss – UTSports
The No. 21 ranked Tennessee Vols women’s soccer team beat the No. 24 ranked Ole Miss Rebels on Thursday night in a high-scoring affair. Tennessee won the scoring battle 6-4, improving to 11-1-1 overall and 3-1-1 in the SEC.
"Juniors Anna Bialczak and Rylie O’Keefe scored two goals each to power the Vols to the high-scoring victory, the most the team has scored in an SEC match in five seasons."
