Tennessee Vols morning report: John Kelly suspension, football injuries

Tennessee Vols running back John Kelly’s suspension and a football injury report lead the Volunteers news for Thursday, Oct. 26, 2017.

News was already bad for the Tennessee Vols football team, sitting at 3-4 and 0-4 in the SEC and heading to Lexington as underdogs against the Kentucky Wildcats. However, it got worse on Wednesday for everybody.

Our news on Rocky Top leads with the obvious suspension story that caught everybody off-guard. But that’s not the only bad news from the day.

We also have some injury updates to bring you as well. Despite the guys who are returning, it looks like another guy is going to be out.

Meanwhile, there is news regarding two other sports as well. But let’s start with the breaking football news.

John Kelly, Will Ignont suspended – Blake Toppmeyer, Knoxville News Sentinel

A Tennessee Vols football offense that hasn’t scored a touchdown in three and a half games will now be without its best offensive weapon on Saturday. John Kelly was suspended for the Kentucky Wildcats game due to a marijuana citation. Linebacker Will Ignont was suspended along with him.

"Kelly and Ignont were cited by the Knoxville Police Department on Tuesday night after police say they found marijuana in a vehicle the players were in."

Tennessee Vols injury report – Ryan Callahan, GoVols247

Tennessee football cornerback Baylen Buchanan will miss Saturday’s game against the Kentucky Wildcats due to injury. Meanwhile, kicker Aaron Medley is set to return. However, Brent Cimaglia is still the Vols’ primary place-kicker. Evan Berry is still day-to-day, and Quinten Dormady will be on the field Saturday and ready to go, even though Jarrett Guarantano will start.

"Buchanan, who sat out three games earlier this year because of an injury, recorded his first tackle of the season against the Crimson Tide and was part of Tennessee’s cornerback rotation in the absence of senior starter Justin Martin."

Tennessee soccer to face Arkansas – UTSports

The Tennessee Vols soccer team will visit the Arkansas Razorbacks Thursday night for an 8 p.m. E.T. game (7 p.m. Central). Ranked No. 19 and with a spot already secured in the SEC Tournament, the Vols are trying to rebound from a bad week last week.

"The Vols (13-3-1, 5-3-1 SEC) lost two games last week by 2-1 scores to Vanderbilt on the road and then-No. 20 Florida at home. Arkansas (9-8-1, 4-4-1) split matches last weekend, losing to Alabama 1-0 and defeating Kentucky 2-0."

Tennessee Vols 2018 softball schedule released – WVLT TV  

The 2018 Tennessee softball schedule was announced on Wednesday. The Vols are trying to get back to the College World Series after just missing out with a young team in 2017.

"The slate includes six NCAA Super Regional participants, two of which went on to compete in the 2017 Women’s College World Series.The 2018 schedule includes 16 teams that made the 2017 NCAA Tournament and six Super Regional participants. Oregon and LSU advanced to the Women’s College World Series."
