Shooting Guard

1. Evina Westbrook

Once again, we go to a freshman to be the starter here. But in this case, the Tennessee Lady Vols are turning to the star of their recruiting class. Evina Westbrook was the No. 2 ranked player in the country as a member of the 2017 Tennessee women’s basketball recruiting class. She was a huge get for Warlick all the way from South Salem High School in Oregon.

At 6’0″, the true freshman can step in and fill an immediate scoring need at this position. Again, she’s going to be crucial due to the departure of Diamond DeShields. That loss left a huge void in scoring altogether, and when you add the departure of Alexa Middleton, it only gets worse.

But Westbrook may have more talent than all of them. And she has a ton of potential to immediately make an impact. So we project Warlick will start her immediately.

2. Rennia Davis

Yes, this is an entirely freshman position. While Evina Westbrook starts at guard, we project Rennia Davis will be the backup shooting guard. At 6’2″, Davis is an elite talent who can alternate between the guard and the forward spot. And perhaps she’ll do that.

However, for depth chart purposes, we have her as the No. 2 shooting guard. Davis is another elite recruit that Warlick picked up, so in terms of raw talent, this is the best unit even if they’re young. This makes two five-star freshmen at this position, and if they can alternate in and out, Warlick has a perfect amount of scoring depth here.
