The Tennessee Volunteers moved up by default in our SEC Power Rankings following Week 10 of the 2017 college football season.
For the first time in a while, the Tennessee Vols have moved up in our SEC Power Rankings. Okay, it was by default, but they at least one a game for the first time since September. And a horrific loss by another team helped them.
While Tennessee remains in complete limbo with its future, other teams in the SEC are looking better than ever. Right now, thanks to a weekend of upsets in the Big Ten, there is a very strong chance that two SEC teams could make the College Football Playoff.
However, it’s going to come down to two of the final three weeks and then the conference championship week. That’s because only two teams from the SEC have a chance to make the playoff right now.
And they both face another one of the top teams in the conference this month before likely facing each other in the SEC Championship. That makes for a crazy month ahead of us. It also helps to easily sort out who belongs where in our SEC Power Rankings for this week.
While two teams from the conference are in contention for the College Football Playoff, another five have clinched bowl eligibility. In all likelihood, a sixth will reach it after this weekend.
That makes for a cluster of the final six teams trying to get to a bowl game. Five of them are 4-5, and one of them is 3-5. And they all are on collision courses to face each other.
As a result, while they may not be competing for championships, the final three weeks of play in the regular season of the conference are going to be epic. And this list should give you an idea of why it will be exciting.
So let’s go ahead and break down where everybody stands and what everybody still has to play for. These are our SEC Power Rankings following Week 10 of the 2017 college football season.
